Yosemite FileKeeper 2.8
These release notes complement the documentation provided with Yosemite FileKeeper. This document addresses new features, known issues and their workarounds for this release.
This is the first release of Yosemite FileKeeper Pro and Yosemite FileKeeper Lite. If you participated in the Yosemite FileKeeper Pro Beta program, you should remove any previous Beta versions using Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel before installing the current version. Previous releases of other Yosemite FileKeeper editions may not be compatible. Therefore, you should remove any previous installations of Yosemite FileKeeper before installing Yosemite FileKeeper Pro or Yosemite FileKeeper Lite.
Yosemite FileKeeper requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or later. If you do not have it installed, you will be directed to the Microsoft Web site where you can download and install it before continuing with the Yosemite FileKeeper installation.
You must install Update Rollup 1 on Windows 2000 before you install Yosemite FileKeeper. If you don't have it installed, it is available from Microsoft.
You can evaluate Yosemite FileKeeper Pro free for 30 days. You have the full functionality of Yosemite FileKeeper Pro during the evaluation period. When the evaluation period expires, Yosemite FileKeeper Pro will revert to Yosemite FileKeeper Lite and you will lose the ability to back up your protected files to external Data Vaults. You will, however, retain the ability to recover the 4 most recent versions of your protected files stored in the local Version Store. For more information on the differences between Yosemite FileKeeper Pro and Yosemite FileKeeper Lite, please refer to the Yosemite FileKeeper Help.
You can purchase Yosemite FileKeeper Pro online by clicking the Buy Now button on the License page in the Yosemite FileKeeper Control Panel.
Updates to Yosemite FileKeeper Pro and Yosemite FileKeeper Lite are available over the Internet. By default, you are notified when updates are available. We recommend that you set Yosemite FileKeeper to automatically download and install updates on the About page in the Yosemite FileKeeper Control Panel.
Yosemite FileKeeper is continuously tested on many operating systems and can be installed on any of the following operating systems with the hardware requirements listed. In all configurations, the latest service pack may be required for full functionality.

|
Disk space |
15 MB hard disk space required after Microsoft Windows is installed (typical installation). The Version Store requires additional space on the
system disk. Its size depends on the editing activity of the user and
whether Snapshot Protection is used to protect files such as Outlook
Personal Folders. A typical user will require approximately the following
hard disk space for their local repository … |
Notes:
1. Yosemite FileKeeper only runs on the 32-bit editions of the listed operating systems.
2. You must install Update Rollup 1 on Windows 2000 before you install Yosemite FileKeeper. If you don't have it installed, it is available from Microsoft.
To submit problems, suggestions or enhancement requests, follow these steps:
1. Open the Yosemite FileKeeper Control Panel by double-clicking the Yosemite FileKeeper icon in the system tray or by opening Yosemite FileKeeper Control Panel through the Windows Start menu.
2. Select the Health page in Yosemite FileKeeper Control Panel.
3. Select the Support tab and follow the instructions given there.
Additional product information can be found at http://filekeeper.com/.
- When you make some configuration changes in the Yosemite FileKeeper Control Panel, you may have to close and then reopen it to make those changes visible on other pages.
- Yosemite FileKeeper only checks the status of Data Vaults when there is a need to copy files to them. This means that the status of a Data Vault can be "operating normally" even if the Data Vault is not connected, e.g., if a USB flash drive has been removed. However, the first time that Yosemite FileKeeper needs to copy a protected file to that Data Vault, the status will change to "media removed".
- Infrequently, the Yosemite FileKeeper service will fail to start after a reboot. This will cause an X to appear in the Yosemite FileKeeper taskbar icon and on the Health page of the Yosemite FileKeeper Control Panel. If this happens, please restart your computer. If the problem persists after the restart, please contact Support for their assistance.
- A problem was discovered if all of these conditions are true:
- a previous version of Yosemite FileKeeper version 2.8 was installed,
- encryption was enabled on Data Vaults,
- any Snapshot policies were enabled (like "Microsoft Outlook" or "Microsoft Outlook Express"), and
- there were large Snapshot files (over 1 MB).
If all of these conditions are true, some versions of the Snapshot files may not be recoverable in certain cases. These files will automatically be deleted on the Data Vaults and re-created. No action is required on the part of the user.
