Yosemite Backup Unlimited Satisfies BigByte.cc's Hunger For Simplified Data Protection
As a data and disaster recovery center operating as a backup site for its customers, BigByte is an expert in hosting large amounts of business-critical data. After using Symantec Backup Exec 11d for its data protection needs for a year and a half, BigByte's network administrator, Brian Parker, became accustomed to hosting a large amount of critical backup problems.
"Jobs kept disappearing," Parker said as he explained his experiences with Backup Exec. "After a lot of frustration and many calls to Symantec trying to figure out what the issues were, we thought we had them resolved. After four times of setting up jobs and trying again, I got fed up and said we need to try something else."
Through discussions with Dell and CDW, Parker discovered Yosemite Backup Unlimited. He decided to download a free trial of the software and immediately noticed how easy Yosemite Backup was to configure compared to Backup Exec.
"We had a few minor issues at the start so I contacted my reseller," Parker noted. "Within 15 minutes of my call, I received a call from Yosemite Tech Support and we got the issue resolved very quickly. Ever since it's been running really smoothly. I haven't had to fuss with it at all and it's completing all my jobs."
Parker decided to purchase Yosemite Backup Unlimited for Windows to handle BigByte's three servers and roughly 250 GB of data, mainly user documents and company data stores. He calculated that the company saved about 35 percent by having Yosemite Backup handle BigByte's three servers rather than Backup Exec 11d. While configuring his new data protection software, Parker noticed that Yosemite Backup operates completely different than Backup Exec in that it streamlines, making it a lot easier to configure to get the jobs correctly.
"It's very easy to install the Yosemite Backup Unlimited for Windows client on new servers," commented Parker. "In addition, as I started adding more servers onto my network, I found that Yosemite Backup Unlimited is much cheaper than Backup Exec 11d, which allows me to keep costs down as my business grows."
In addition to saving BigByte money, Yosemite Backup is saving Parker and his staff's valuable time by providing efficient and reliable backups. Data protection has become uneventful at BigByte and that's exactly how they want it.
"Yosemite sends me an e-mail every morning letting me know that my backup worked fine. I went from having to spend 20-30 minutes to make sure Symantec did its job, to going, 'Alright cool, all the backup is done. I don't have to worry about it.' Yosemite has made backup as easy as opening up an e-mail in my inbox."
Parker's experience with Yosemite Backup and Yosemite Tech Support has made a great impression on him. He plans on creating a new infrastructure for another BigByte site and plans on purchasing Yosemite Backup Unlimited for the data protection needs of that site as well.
