D2D2Ne Option

Do you need the performance that backup to disk provides but you're worried about disaster protection that backup to tape provides? Yosemite Technologies introduces D2D2Ne™ (pronounced disk to disk to any). D2D2Ne allows you to backup to disk for performance and then have the system automatically copy or move the data to tape or other backup media for disaster protection using policies and control set by you.
D2D2Ne is a unique solution to the problem faced by backup admins using backup-to-disk to protect more data in less time, but still desire the disaster protection afforded by removable media like tape. D2D2Ne is a convergence of what has traditionally been to separate tasks -Backup to disk for fast backup and restore times and backup to tape for offsite storage, disaster protection and archival.
D2D2Ne allows administrators to:
D2D2Ne is so powerful; you can use D2D2Ne to maintain multiple sets of data on multiple different disk locations. You will never forget to make a tape copy of your data for disaster recovery since it all happens automatically.

Thinking of buying a Virtual Tape Library?

Virtual Tape Libraries (VTL) are traditionally hardware-based appliances that allow administrators the performance benefit of backup to disk while storing data in tape-compatible formats to ease data flow to tape at administrator-defined intervals. If you're considering investing in this technology, consider the cost savings of D2D2Ne™. The D2D2Ne option provides the functionality of a hardware-based VTL, but more powerful and flexible without the high cost.
Hardware VTL D2D2Ne™
Multiple Disk Drives Seen by software applications as a tape or tape library. Backup Software does not know how many physical disk drives make up the VTL. Yosemite knows how many disk drives there are in the VTL, and can start a backup job for each drive using Self Tuning Logic™. Result is much faster backups.
Migration of jobs from disk to tape The VTL moves the files from disk to tape without involvement from the backup application. The backup application has no knowledge the data has moved. This lack of true integration results in the backup application waiting for extended periods to do a restore while the tape is loaded and recovered back to the VTL. When files are migrated from source to disk and then to tape, the Yosemite catalog is updated to show the files have moved to tape. When the administrator goes to do a restore, Yosemite Backup knows the data is on tape, on disk, or both, informs the administrator and even allows you to select from which media to recover.
Size of Disk Vendor determines form factor (number of drives and sizes of drives) for the VTL. You generally purchase the devices from them at a premium. Each hardware has a limit to how many devices it will hold, and therefore a limit to the size of the VTL. Use off-the-shelf hardware such as inexpensive disk arrays and create any size and configuration VTL that is practical to your business needs.
