Media Server

Scale Your Backup as Your Business Needs Grow

The Yosemite Backup Media Server is the second of the three primary components that make up the Yosemite Backup modular architecture and enable customers to efficiently manage and protect server data as part of your overall data protection strategy. The Media Server serves as a resource for the Master Server and receives all the data from the Client Servers. The Media Server optionally encrypts the data (NEW!) and either stores backup data directly on disk or writes it out to directly-attached archiving devices such as tape drives/libraries, CD/DVD devices, and hard disks.
Media Servers come in one of two forms: Standard or SAN. Standard Media Servers connect to Client Servers over a Local Area Network (LAN) and write data only to locally-attached archiving devices. SAN Media Servers are connected directly to a Storage Area Network (SAN) via fiber channel based host bus adapters and allow archiving devices connected to the SAN to be shared by more than one Media Server. Both Standard and SAN Media servers support media encryption.
Yosemite Backup Standard supports up to five Standard Media Servers or two SAN Media Servers. Yosemite Backup Advanced supports an unlimited number of Media Servers (Standard or SAN) in a Backup Domain.
The Media Server can run natively on Microsoft Windows, Netware, or Linux operating systems.
Please Note: Yosemite Backup Media Server must be connected to an existing Yosemite Backup Master Server and will not function as standalone backup server.
